Duoyishu village, between agriculture and tourism

Yuanyang Province is an agricultural region known for its terraced rice fields. Perched between 1400 and 2000 meters, the minority group Hani has carved the terraces for generations the to allow the irrigation and the cultivation of rice.

 

La province de Yuanyang est une région agricole réputée pour ses cultures de rizières en terrasse. Perchée entre 1400 et 2000 mètres, la minorité Hani a sculpté depuis des générations le relief pour y permettre l'irrigation et la culture du riz.

The Duoyishu village is a symbol of the encounter between ancestral agriculture and tourism economy. A private company has set up hotel restaurants, look out points and a ticket office on the only road that reaches the village. This money has no impact on the local farmers, so some of them are leaving the crops for the benefit of the tourist hosting.

 

Le village de Duoyishu est un symbole de la rencontre entre culture ancestrale et économie touristique. Une société privée a installé des hôtels restaurants, points de vue et une billetterie sur l'unique route qui mène au village. Cet argent n'a aucune retombée sur les agriculteurs locaux alors certains délaissent les cultures au profit de l’hébergement des touristes.

In this southern Yunnan province, valleys are rich of agriculture and minority culture. Each week at the markets, the different communities arrive and make the local economy live.

 

Dans cette province du sud du Yunnan, les vallées sont riche d'agriculture et de minorités. Chaque semaine à l'occasion des marchés, les différentes communautés se retrouvent et font vivre l’économie locale.

Thousands of tourists come to admire the cultivation of rice field terraces every year and tourism money brings a new deal in the local economy of Yuanyang valleys. Now China has to face the expanding tourism infrastructure by protecting its heritage and its ancestral cultures.

 

Tout les ans des milliers de touristes viennent admirer les cultures de rizières en terrasse et l'argent du tourisme apporte une nouvelle donne dans l’économie locale de ces vallées du Yuanyang. Maintenant la chine doit faire face à l’expansion des infrastructures touristique en protégeant son patrimoine et ses cultures ancestrales.
